Custom Quilt, DragonBallZ
About a month ago I finished a commissioned custom 8-bit quilt. It was the first large quilt that I had accepted on commission, because I had just gotten my long arm, so I could finally quilt something larger than the tiny baby sized ones I that I do on my domestic machine.
The character was from DragonBallZ. His name is Vegeta, and there was a specific picture she wanted of him, and a quote bubble with him saying "How DARE You!". Now, I'm old. I don't know anything about DragonBallZ. I don't know this character from a hole in the wall, and I will admit, even though I designed it, I was skeptical at first.
On paper it looked ok... I drafted the character on good-ol' graph paper, and then transferred him into both EQ8 and my 8-Bit software, PixelStudio. Once it started translating into fabric, though, the magic was apparent. Here when the face was done, I was convinced this was going to be cool.
The specs for the quilt were this: 100% cotton top (Some blenders and Kona Cotton solids). The top is patchwork with an appliquéd word bubble. The batting is 100% cotton, super low loft. The back is cuddle fabric, in teal. The binding is Kona Cotton attached by machine and tacked down by hand. It measured approximately 81" square. The customer who ordered it was getting it as a gift for her boyfriend. She was so pleased with the outcome, and so was I, frankly. I'm working on some similar ideas of my own now.
Here are some detail and as close to full shots as I could get, the only place big enough in my house to put the whole thing was on my KING SIZED bed... And the light in my bedroom is spotty at best.
Anyway, Enjoy and Piece!
